Pre-skilling and assisting Indigenous people successfully gain entry into the WA Police Service. The Program also provided training for entry into other career paths for example, the Australian Defence Force, Security, Mining and Local Government.
What We Did
We developed programs that assisted Indigenous people successfully gain entry into training for employment.
We have successfully placed many people in the communities in employment within the WA Police Service, the Australian Defence Force, Security, Mining and Local Government.
We supported participants and their families through a transition from unemployment to full-time employment. Various supports we incorporated into our work included:
The importance of a high-quality recruitment and screening process.
The development of family and peer group support for the participants
The provision of a strong mentor support component to the program – recognising the need for mentors and role models has been a significant factor in training and employment retention.

15 Police Officers;
6 Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers; and
